Week 26 - Skirt #3

Week 25: Skirt #3
                Material used:  Polyester silk

<!--[if !supportLists]-->1.       <!--[endif]--> How well did it work as a garment?
I think that the garment worked very well; it fit great and I feel it is a great improvement from the work I have done previously.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->2.       <!--[endif]-->Is it fashion? If so why, if not why not?
I do think that my skirt was ‘fashion’. I love the panelling and the detailing at the back.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->3.       <!--[endif]-->What opening did you use?
I used a zip.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->4.       <!--[endif]-->What were the problems?
I found the material very hard to work with. The fabric was hard to line up and if you made a mistake it would be very visible.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->5.       <!--[endif]-->What could you do to improve next time?
Next time I think I will challenge myself to just use the polyester silk to make a skirt because I don’t think I could say I used the polyester to create the garment, it was more like an accessory.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.       <!--[endif]-->What was the fabric?
Polyester silk and cotton.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->7.       <!--[endif]-->How much did you use?
I used 1 metre of the polyester silk

<!--[if !supportLists]-->8.       <!--[endif]-->How much did it cost?
£2.50 a metre

<!--[if !supportLists]-->9.       <!--[endif]-->Where was it sourced?
Shepherds Bush

..................................................................................................................................................................
I first planned out my patter and cut out workable pieces. I then traced out the patterns onto the cotton and  sewed all the pieces together.

After I sewed the sided together and pinned it to the mannequin making sure the shape was right .

 When I found that the pieces fit well on the mannequin , I ironed out the allowances and ironed down the darts. I then ironed the polyester silk to get rid of the creases. Fitting the skirt onto the mannequin I wrapped the polyester silk around the waist making a waistband and pinned it in place.

 I tacked the polyester silk to the waistband, and then I tacked the detailing to the back of the skirt. I then sewed some white beads to add extra detailing.

I REALLY enjoy doing panelling. I thought that it looked hard to do, but when I tried I found that it wasnt that hard.

I would will definately be practicing how to do more innovative, and challenging panelling a bit like the skirt above.
