Week 22 - Trousers #1

Week 21: Trousers #1
                Material used:  Cotton and Lycra

1.       How well did it work as a garment?
I would give the garment 6 out of 10. As I am not very confident with making clothes, for my first attempt I wanted to make something simple. I wanted to make a pumpkin skirt. I think the skirt I made was quite cute, but it could have made better.

2.       Is it fashion? If so why, if not why not?
I don’t think that the skirt was really ‘Fashion’ because it wasn't very exciting; I didn't really experiment with the skirt. I think the skirt was more practical and comfortable than fashion.

3.       What opening did you use?
I used elastic around the waist.

4.       What were the problems?
The problem that I had was measuring the fabric properly, because when it came to sewing the skirt together one side was longer than the other.

5.       What could you do to improve next time?
To improve next time I would measure out the material better, making it even.

6.       What was the fabric?
The material that I used for skirt #1 was a very nice polyester.

7.       How much did you use?
I only used half the fabric as I was making a short skirt.

8.       How much did it cost?
The material cost £6 per metre.

9.       Where was it sourced?
Brick lane and Shepherd bush.

.............................................................................................................................................

I firstly made a plan of how I wanted the trousers to fit, and then made my own pattern.

I ironed the fabric to pre-shrink the fabric and get out any creases.

I then pinned, chalked and cut out my separate pattern pieces.

I sewed all the darts first and then began to sew the pieces together where necessary.

I tried on the garment and found that the sides came out at an angle too much. So I put them on inside out and pinned where i would need to sew.

After making the altercations, i made a waist band because the trousers came down too low and also to neaten the trouser, to make it look more presentable.

When making my trousers, I had Jodhpurs in mind. Instead of having a patch of colour on the inner thigh, i put the red colour on the outer thigh.
