Week 20: Dress #1

Material used:  Silk

·         How well did it work as a garment?

I think it was a good attempt; the shape came out well. But other than that it was not that good.

·         Is it fashion? If so why, if not why not?

I don’t think that the dress was actually ‘fashion’ because it was just a simple dress.

·         What opening did you use?

I used a zip.

·         What were the problems?

The biggest problem that I had with the dress was that the zip was not long enough and it did not past the waist, so when it came to putting the dress on it would not fit.

·         What could you do to improve next time?

What I could have definitely improved next time would be to put a longer zip in. I would also do the hem and neckline.

·         What was the fabric?

 silk

I made pattern blocks. I then made my own workable patterns and pinned them to the fabric.
 
I used a bodice and skirt pattern to create the dress. I made workable copies of the front and back of the block. I pinned them down onto the material and used a tailors chalk to draw around them.

I then did the darts first and then sewed all the pieces to make the dress.

I didn't hem the arms and neck, as i didn't want to spoil it.

 

I wanted to come up with a simple work dress. Like the one Cheryl Cole is wearing below:
